Senior Network Engineer (Network Operations)
Location: San Diego, CA
Position Type: Hybrid (3-4 days onsite per week)

Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Network Engineer to join our enterprise infrastructure team in San Diego, California. This position is focused on the day-to-day operation, support, maintenance, and troubleshooting of a large-scale corporate network environment.

This is an operational network engineering position focused on supporting and troubleshooting an existing enterprise network environment. This is not a network architecture or design-focused role.

This is a highly operational role responsible for ensuring the reliability, performance, and security of the organization’s network infrastructure. The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience supporting enterprise networking technologies and a passion for diagnosing and resolving complex technical issues. This position is best suited for a network engineer who enjoys troubleshooting production environments rather than designing greenfield network architectures.

The successful candidate will work closely with IT operations, security, infrastructure, and business stakeholders to maintain a stable and secure network environment while responding to incidents, service requests, and operational challenges.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide operational support for enterprise network infrastructure, including routing, switching, wireless networking, firewalls, and WAN connectivity.
  • Investigate, troubleshoot, and resolve network-related incidents and service requests submitted through ServiceNow.
  • Support and administer Palo Alto firewall environments, including security policies, NAT configurations, VPN connectivity, traffic analysis, and troubleshooting.
  • Support Cisco Catalyst 9400 switching infrastructure, including VLANs, trunking, Spanning Tree Protocol, port configurations, and network performance issues.
  • Support Aruba wireless networking environments, including access points, controllers, authentication services, client connectivity, and wireless performance optimization.
  • Support SD-WAN infrastructure and troubleshoot branch connectivity, application performance, failover events, latency, and packet loss issues.
  • Perform root cause analysis for network outages and recurring operational issues.
  • Monitor network health, performance, availability, and capacity across the enterprise environment.
  • Collaborate with security teams to investigate connectivity and security-related events.
  • Coordinate with telecommunications providers and vendors to resolve circuit and service issues.
  • Maintain accurate network documentation, diagrams, configurations, and operational procedures.
  • Participate in planned maintenance activities, upgrades, patching, and change management processes.
  • Support incident response efforts during critical outages and high-priority production events.

Typical Issues You May Resolve

  • Users unable to access critical business applications.
  • Site-to-site VPN connectivity failures.
  • Palo Alto firewall policy or NAT-related connectivity issues.
  • Wireless connectivity and performance problems.
  • Branch office connectivity outages.
  • SD-WAN failover and routing issues.
  • High latency, packet loss, or network performance degradation.
  • Cisco switching and VLAN-related connectivity problems.
  • DHCP and DNS-related network service issues.
  • Network outages impacting business operations.

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of hands-on enterprise network engineering experience.
  • Strong troubleshooting experience in complex production network environments.
  • Experience supporting Palo Alto Networks firewalls.
  • Experience supporting Cisco enterprise switching environments, preferably Cisco Catalyst 9400 series.
  • Experience supporting Aruba wireless networking solutions.
  • Experience supporting WAN and SD-WAN technologies.
  • Strong understanding of TCP/IP, routing, switching, VLANs, VPNs, DNS, DHCP, and network security concepts.
  • Experience working within IT Service Management environments utilizing ServiceNow or similar ticketing systems.
  • Ability to perform root cause analysis and effectively resolve complex technical issues.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Palo Alto Networks Certified Network Security Engineer (PCNSE)
  • Palo Alto Networks Certified Network Security Administrator (PCNSA)
  • Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA)
  • Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP Enterprise)
  • Aruba Certified Professional certifications
  • Experience supporting enterprise cloud connectivity including Microsoft Azure and/or AWS
  • Experience with network monitoring and performance management tools

What Success Looks Like
